Societygal Feature with Geraldine Ridaura, Founder of Holy Matcha
Introducing, Geraldine Riadura, founder of the Instagram dream known as Holy Matcha in San Diego! In just 1 year Holy Matcha has become a huge success! We admire Geraldine's work ethic and positive approach to business. Geraldine is super passionate about all things matcha and really nails the aesthetic that keeps us coming back for more- she had us at millenial pink walls and dairy-free matcha soft serve.
Tell us about yourself and what you do?: I am not from San Diego, I am from Mexico and bilingual, however, English is my second language, yet I am fluent in it. I have a cat that I consider my baby, I adore him to pieces!
Matcha has been my passion for years and in summer 2016 the thought of opening a matcha cafe was born. Although I had never started a business, I was able to launch this dream of mine in less than six months. I am proud to say that I am the founder/manager/operator/mother of this establishment known as HOLY MATCHA.
What do you like most about Societygal?: I am a huge supporter of women and knowledge, with that being said, SG is both of those and offers a platform that encourages women to pursue their passion, learn from one another, and support each other.
Who do you look up to and why?: MY PARENTS! Because of them, I am who I am today. I barely saw them growing up because they both worked so much (still till this day) and I am eternally grateful for that. Because of them, I've learned to grow a back bone, be independent, and work hard. They sacrificed so much for me and because of that I push myself every day to make them happy and proud.
What advice do you have for our readers?: You must have passion for everything and anything that you do. Time is precious and it's the only thing you can't get back- don't waste that comparing yourself to someone else. Concentrate on you and you only and don't give up.
What new things are you up to?: SO MUCH! I have my 1yr anniversary coming up on March 11th and I am all sorts of emotions. Holy Matcha will also be participating in a couple of events this spring, which is new and exciting for me. I am also getting married this summer, crazy excited about that. AND there might be another special "pink" project brewing but I cannot release the details to that yet :)
What books are you reading?: If I ever have time, I bought the book Healing Mushrooms by Tero Isokauppila, and it's so good!
When did you launch your business?: March 11, 2017 - can you believe that? Barely a year, time flies when you're doing what you love!
What are your offerings in your business?: Matcha everything! From traditional matcha to matcha lattes, matcha horchata, matcha lemonade, the list of drinks is endless. Food wise, we're not a full blown restaurant and out kitchen is tiny, but we make amazing toasts such as our bomb avocado toast, matcha chia pudding, vegan matcha soft serve, gluten free waffles, matcha donuts, etc. GOOD STUFF!
How do you manage a work / life balance? Do you set any specific boundaries?: To be completely honest to the readers, I've been bad with my boundaries. I literally work 24/7. I'm working at the dinner table, family gatherings, date nights... it is how it is. This is my life at the moment and I stand by it. I've been blessed to have the support system that understands me and I do hope to have a few boundaries in the near future.
What is does your morning routine look like? Do you stick to a schedule?: I wake up at 6am, cuddle with my cat for a bit, wash my face (I shower at night to save time in the morning), eat breakfast and get going. Anything after that just depends on the day and its challenge.
Favorite food +/or drinks?: Oh dear, this isn't fair- I like too many types of food! I'd say either pizza or my moms breakfast sandwich of veggies + egg. Drink wise... MATCHA, all day every day.
Where can our readers find you?: I run Holy Matchas Instagram account and my personal, so feel free to send me any messages to either account!
